Changes Possible at DCPS
DCPS has to improve - - the math curriculum needs to be revamped. Everyday Math was a disaster. DCPS needs improved math resources.

Everything is so temporary! Principals are on one-year contracts. Children need adults they can depend on. But in a closing, it is likely that students will start at a new school knowing not one adult face.

If we take the Chancellor at her word - - that this is a proposal - - what should be done? Of possible consolidations in Ward 8 what are the possibilities?
Ferebee-Hope to Hendley might work; Terrell to King might work. Malcolm X to Turner might work.

But these closings will affect ALL the DCPS schools in Ward 8 because schools that are now full will get fuller because people will be looking to go to schools like Orr which are being more successful but there will be no room.

This is a done deal. DCPS has already decided to close these schools there is nothing to be done.

But what about renting out some of the space? Using it for compatible city services?

What about renting out and sharing space with charter schools? That has not been tried much but it would be easier and better for people than closing their schools.

One school is preparing a proposal with respect to partnering with another of the closed schools but NOT the one that has been proposed as a closure partner.
